When it comes to losing weight, and doing it quickly, there are many different diets, fads and crazy ideas out there. Everyone seems to think they have the “magic” fix for your weight loss needs. But when it comes right down to it, it all depends on the calories. Your body responds to what is put into it. No big surprise there, right? So the trick is not to consume more calories than your body will naturally burn in a day. When you do this, the extra calories are stored in fat cells, leading you to become overweight.
To maintain your current weight, you would need to consume the same amount of calories that you burn naturally in a day. To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you consume. There are two ways of achieving this. The first way is through activity. Every movement of your body uses calories. If you want to burn more, you will have to be more active such as through an exercise program. The second way of doing this is to consume fewer calories.
Our bodies get calories from the foods we eat. We need calories and they are important. So restricting your calorie intake considerably is not always the best option. You can become weak and tired from a starvation diet. A better idea is to choose the foods you eat carefully and eat the right kinds of foods. Foods that are lower in calories and do not contain “dead” or useless calories are the most helpful.
For example, sodas, candy and many snacks contain dead calories – or calories that contain no real nutritional value. You are consuming calories but they serve no real benefit to your body or your health. You need to eat foods that are part of a well- balanced diet and that are low in calories. Below are some great low-calorie foods that you should work into your diet.
• Beans • Broccoli • Brussels sprouts • Boiled macaroni • Low fat or fat free yogurt • Spaghetti • Rice • Potatoes • Apples, cherries and other fruits • Mushrooms • Onions • Corn
Also, remember your grapefruit and grapefruit juice. It helps start the fat burning process and will speed your weight loss.
