Ab Training:
Ab Training – The “How” is Never As Important As The “Why”
Have you ever wondered why some
people just seem just seem to have “all
of the luck” when it comes to the way
their abs look?  Do these people happen
to be members of the “lucky parents
club” or is there something else?

To be honest – and this is a huge focus
of mine – most people only seem to
concern themselves of the “hows” of a
process.  Things like “how” to I get
ripped or “how” do I do the exercises
that will make my abs really show are
ingrained into the heads of millions.
However, to everyone on this site, the “hows” aren’t nearly as important as the
“whys”.  You see, developing a great set of abs takes determination and dedication… it
doesn’t just happen for most of us.  This development isn’t a lightning fast process –
but it is a simple process.

In fact, understanding “why” an exercise works will actually help you correctly do the
exercise.  I can’t tell you how many people I see everyday that are doing exercises
wrong… just because they are were only shown “how” to do an exercise once or twice
(even if the form that was shown was picture perfect)… and they just can’t seem to
remember “how” to perform it exactly.

Understanding the “why’s”

There are two sides to the “why’s”.

If you’ll notice, each of the people that you typically read about (including the experts
on this site) will tell you to do this exercise, then that exercise, and poof… great abs.
They can tell you exactly how to do this for one reason – they understand why you
should do these exercises.

They understand why you should use certain combinations together and what muscle
groups that you are targeting.  They understand why… and can create magical
workouts based on this fact.  “How” is just a byproduct.

Coincidentally, they all have phenomenal ab regions.

And you can too… if you learn the craft a bit… if you learn the “whys”.

Here’s a fact (and it leads into my second side of the “whys”):

People that look for the “magic formula” to success always fall.  In saying that, many
of the exercises you do to help sculpt your abs probably aren’t going to cause any
instantaneous change.  These “magic formula” people go through the process for a
few weeks, get frustrated, and end up looking for another “magic formula”, just
because they failed to understand the “why’s”.

(No wonder the diet and fitness industry is approaching yearly sales of 1 trillion
dollars, yet our society as a whole is fatter than ever)

To put it bluntly:

•        Understanding how  short term success, long term failure
•        Understanding why  short term success, long term success

The second side of the “why’s” of ab training builds onto the previous one.

I want you to think about something – and this is extremely important – why do you
want to have great abs?

Seriously, until you can come up with a compelling “why I want great abs” – something
other than “because they’d be nice to have” – your core will continue to remain the
same.  It is a well known fact that most people loathe ab work.  Therefore, if you don’t
have a good lever – some powerful reason to make it happen – you’ll start strong and
fizzle out soon after.  You need to take some time and really think about “why” having
great abs is important to you.

I have to laugh when I say this but all of this flawless information that you’re reading
is just a jumble of big words unless it’s put to use.

So, your homework for the next week is to understand “why” each of the exercises
work the way that they work and understand “why” you’d want to attack your abs in a
certain way.  Don’t just memorize the process… understand the process.

And, if you haven’t already done so, create your #1 compelling reason to have great
abs.  Otherwise, your ab progress = garbage.
